I have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep at night. I have insomnia and I’ve had it for as long as I can remember. According to research, insomnia is pretty common. Around 1 in 3 people have a mild form of it.

A few years ago, a friend shared a yoga nidra audio recording by Swami B with me. The first time I tried yoga nidra, I played the audio and within minutes, like a baby, I was fast asleep. I experienced a profound relaxation in my body and mind. While yoga nidra promotes sleep, you want to stay awake during the practice and not doze off. What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga nidra is a deep relaxation and meditation practice derived from tantra yoga. It’s known as yogic sleep, or the state of consciousness between waking and sleeping that is intended to induce total physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. This meditative practice is accessible to anyone. It can be practiced in less than 5 minutes or as long as 45 mins. It is said that 1 hour of yoga nidra is like 4 hours of sleep.
