Seated Yoga Warm Up Sequence With Pictures

Warming up the body before any exercise routine, yoga practice or physical activity is necessary to loosen up joints and muscles and avoid serious injury. Here’s a seated yoga warm up sequence that anyone can do just about anywhere. This sequence can also be done sitting on a chair.

  1. Start in seated position.
  2. Inhale, raise arms to the sky.
  3. Exhale, place right hand on left knee with your left arm behind you and twist.
  4. Inhale, raise arms to the sky.
  5. Exhale and twist to the other side.
  6. Inhale, arms to the sky.
  7. Exhale, fold foward.  
  8. Inhale, stretch to the left. 
  9. Exhale back to center.
  10. Inhale, stretch to the right.  
  11. Exhale, back to seated pose. Anjali mudra (optional).
  12.  Inhale, head to right shoulder on the exhale.
  13. Inhale back to center.  
  14. Exhale, head to left shoulder.
  15.  Inhale back to center.
  16. Exhale, slowly turn head to the right.
  17. Inhale to center and slowly turn head in other direction on the exhale. 
  18. Inhale back to center. Chin to chest on the exhale. 
  19. Inhale back to center. Exhale. Namaste.
